Robert Fludd, as we have mentioned, was one of those who insisted on promulgating the Renaissance idea of Hermes Trismegistus as ancient Egyptian adept (another was the German Michael Maier). Fludd significantly furthered the idea that an actual Rosicrucian brotherhood existed, and seems to have believed it himself, though admitting that he had never actually met a
Rosicrucian.52 Fludd combined Hermeticism and Qabalism in the light of the Rosicrucian manifestoes and the developments of John Dee. He is therefore, one of the major precursers of Mathers and the modern Hermetic Qabalah.
