Make certain that your study periods occur at a time and place where you will not be distracted or interrupted; the further you progress in your study of the Tarot, the more fully you will need to concentrate, to still the normal thinking pattern and allow your subconscious energies to flow freely and enlighten your sensitivities still further.

Sixteen Personalities

Students sometimes become confused when beginning a study of the Court Cards; this is probably because the Court Cards represent human beings primarily, and the first impression is a confused jumble of 16 different personalities. These personalities seem to merge together subtly and are hard to clarify if considered individually. So, let's try and simplify the approach to the Court Cards by dividing them into COURT CARD FAMILIES:

1. Each family consists of four members: KING

QUEEN

KNIGHT

PAGE

2. Like humanity, the four families are divided into two main tvpes: FAIR and DARK.

WANDS & CUPS = FAIR HAIR & SKIN SWORDS & PfcNTACLES = DARK HAIR & SKIN

3. All tour members of each Court Family have the same physical characteristics:

WANDS = FAIR HAIR/RED HAIR BLUE EYES FAIR SKIN CUPS = LIGHT TO MEDIUM BROWN HAIR/HAZEL EYES MEDIUM SKIN

SWORDS = DARK BROWN TO BLACK HAIR DARK EYES OLIVE SKIN

PENTACLKS = WHITE HAIR ANY COT .OR EYES FAIR SKIN (Can also represent MEMBERS OF 1HE DARK-SKINNED RACES.)

Note that if a person has changed the color of his or her hair, it is advisable to identify this person with a Court Card that reflects the change, as this is an obvious expression of an important change in life-style.

We also find that the four members of each family allegorically represent the YOUTH and MATURITY of each human being: KING = MATURE MAM QUEEN = MATURE WOMAN KNIGHT = YOUNG MAN

PACE = YOUNG BOY/YOUNG GIRL/CHILD OF EITHER SEX

EXERCISE 6: SENSITIVITY TO COURT CARDS

1. Extract all 16 Court Cards from your pack.

2. Separate them into the four COURT FAMILIES.

3. Lav the Court Family of WANDS before you from right to left:

The pathology of the poet says that the undevout astronomer is mad the pathology of the very plain man says that the genius is mad and between these extremes, which stand for ten thousand analogous excesses, the sovereign reason takes the part of a moderator and does what it can. I do not think that there is a pathology of the occult dedications, but about their extravagances no one can question, and it is not less difficult than thankless to act as a moderator regarding them.
